Enabling Local Democracy and Inclusive Urban Development Through the SymbioCity Approach

Together with International Center for Local Democracy (ICLD), SKL International conducted an International Training Programme (ITP) in North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Georgia and Ukraine. The overall objective of the programme was to strengthened capacity of local governments to plan, develop and manage urban areas in a sustainable and inclusive direction. The programme seeked to enhance the capacity of individuals as well as organizations. Participants were decision-makers and public officials from local authorities, working in departments dealing with varying types of urban development. The training aimed to provide inspiration, approaches and tools which are effective and useful in the local context and which will ultimately lead to improved health, safety, comfort and quality of life for people living in urban areas.

Time period: Three rounds of trainings between the years 2015 –2019.

Georgia

Participants from Georgia were public officials from the cities of Tbilisi and Kutaisi. They took part in the first round of the training programme 2015-2017.

Ukraine

Participants from Ukraine were public officials and decision makers from the municipalities of Ivano Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi,  and Lviv. They took part in the second and third round of the training programme 2016-2019.

Serbia

Participants from Serbia were public officials and decision makers from the municipalities  of Arandjelovac, Belgrade, Kruševac, Niš, Sabac, Stara Pazova, Stari Grad, and Vracar. They took part in different rounds of of the training programme 2015-2019.

North Macedonia

Participants from North Macedonia were public officials from the municipalities of Kumanovo, Ohrid, Sveti Nikole, Veles and Vevchani. They took part in different rounds of the training programme 2015-2019.

Turkey

Participants from Turkey were public officials from the municipalities of Büyükcekmeze, Cankaya, Mugla, Mustafakelmalpasa and Nilüfer  They took part in different rounds of  the training programme 2015-2019.
