Online closing ceremony after three years SymbioCity Capacity Building Programme in Myanmar

Screenshot of zoom meetingBetween the years 2017 and 2020 SKL International has implemented a SymbioCity Capacity Building Programme in Myanmar in collaboration with Ministry of Construction, Department of Urban and Housing Development (DUHD) through Urban Research and Development Institute (URDI). The overall objective of the SymbioCity Capacity Building Programme has been to have a critical mass of urban development stakeholders in Myanmar capacitated to better address pro-poor sustainable urban development and create a forum for continuous capacity development and training established. With representatives from different levels, around 200 officials have participated in the programme which included training sessions on the SymbioCity methodology with a combination of theory and practice in the cities of Kalay, Kalaw and Dawei. Urban Sustainability Review and Strategy have been developed for each city and for Kalaw a City Profile and a Heritage mapping was created.

To conclude the programme a Training of Trainers event as well as a closing ceremony were successfully held online on 15th and 16th September. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic these events were held on ZOOM, allowing around at least 80 participants in total to join in from different cities in Myanmar and Sweden. The training of Trainers event aim to share experience between the participants of the programme, discuss new knowledge and tools, and train participants to be trainers of the SymbioCity methodology.

Trainings on the SymbioCity with introduction to various tools and methods for more inclusive and sustainable urban development as well as technical expert support have contributed to the increased knowledge and tools for improved local urban development processes in Myanmar.
