We are happy to share our new publication Implementing Agenda 2030 through SymbioCity – Experiences from cities on four continents.
The fate of our cities and the fate of our planet are interlinked. The way we manage urbanisation – how cities and towns develop and grow – will fundamentally determine the future of our planet. It is a daunting task, especially in the light of the climate crisis, inequality, poverty and resource scarcity. At the same time, urban areas hold great potential, and with the right approach, there are opportunities for developing cities which are both green and people friendly.
Over the past 10 years, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions has been supporting local and regional governments in more than 20 countries to plan and develop more sustainable and inclusive urban areas, through SymbioCity. To mark 10 years of work, a publication has been produced to summarize some of the experiences and provides links to further resources for anyone wanting to make use of the approach. It is meant to provide inspiration and tools for other cities wishing to embark on the journey to sustainability.
The editor of Implementing Agenda 2030 through SymbioCity is Mats Jarnhammar at Living Cities who has worked alongside SALAR and SKL International in all projects based on SymbioCity. A special thanks to all the committed leaders, staff, communities, stakeholders and experts engaged in SymbioCity activities over the past 10 years all over the world. We wish to acknowledge and thank everyone who has contributed in finding new solutions for a more sustainable urban future.
