After two years of engagement, SALAR Internationals project Cooperation for Development – Support to Decentralisation and Sustainable Local Development in Georgia (C4D) is concluding in August 2026.
Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the project aimed to strengthen local governance and support sustainable urban development in Georgia through knowledge exchange, capacity development and institutional cooperation.
While changing conditions in the operating environment meant that the project could not continue as originally planned, C4D has produced valuable knowledge and practical tools that will remain available for future use.
Among the project’s most significant contributions are two SymbioCity-based publications adapted to the Georgian context:
These resources draw on Swedish experience and the internationally recognised SymbioCity methodology, providing practical guidance for integrated, participatory and sustainable urban development.
Together with the project’s analytical work, they form a lasting knowledge base for practitioners, academic institutions, civil society organisations and others working to advance sustainable local development in Georgia.
While this chapter of C4D is coming to a close, the knowledge generated, the relationships established and the lessons-learned will continue to support future dialogue and cooperation on sustainable urban development in Georgia and beyond.
